Blueberry season is coming our way and in our family we always go blueberry picking. This means we end up with a lot of blueberries to eat. We eat them fresh, we make some jam for canning, and we freeze a few gallon bags of blueberries to enjoy throughout the year.

Blueberries can be used in so many ways for both sweet and savory recipes. Their sweet-tart flavor makes them perfect for a wide variety of dishes and all kinds of recipes. You can use fresh blueberries, frozen blueberries, and even dried or freeze dried blueberries in a variety of ways.

Many of these recipes can be made with fresh or frozen blueberries. One even uses dried blueberries. If you go blueberry picking this summer, grab some extras for freeze for use all year round.

When I'm freezing blueberries, I wash them and then lay them out on a kitchen towel to dry. Then when they are dry, I place them in an even layer on a baking sheet and put them on the freezer for about one hour.

Then I transfer the blueberries to a gallon freezer bag and place in the freezer. I repeat until I've frozen everything that I want, adding more to the bag until it is full. By freezing the blueberries individually, it prevents the blueberries from sticking together and allows them out pour or be scooped out of the bag freely to use in recipes.

I hope you've found some new ideas for using and enjoying summer blueberries this year and every year!  Let me know in the comments below.
